What Your Dentist Sees on Panoramic X-rays

Going to your dentist can give you a really good idea as to how healthy your mouth really is. They look around your mouth, clean up areas that need extra special attention, and they often take x-rays.

When your dentist takes panoramic x-rays, they are able to see your entire mouth in one set of films. The x-rays go from one side of your mouth, all the way around to the other. This gives them a unique view as to what is all going on within your mouth.

Benefits of Panoramic X-rays

Your mouth is full of all sorts of caveats and crannies. There are bumps, nooks, and crevices that can get debris and bacteria stuck in them. By taking a panoramic x-ray, your dentist is able to see a lot of those nuances of your mouth. They can see better what the back teeth look like on the outside than they may be able to see in your mouth, especially if you have a small mouth or they have big hands.

Looking at a panoramic x-ray, your dentist can see the condition of all of your teeth, the condition of teeth that may not have come in yet (like your wisdom teeth), and even see the health of your jaw. This is an invaluable tool that gives your dentist a peek into what is all going on in your mouth, better than they can sometimes see in the narrower parts of the mouth.

Have your dentist show you what is going on in your mouth the next time he or she takes a panoramic x-ray of your mouth. They can point out areas that they like the look of, and they can point out areas they are paying attention to and why. It's a great way to track the health of your mouth!
