When you go through and brush, floss, and rinse each day, the entire goal is to make your oral health great and to keep it that way, right? Well, what if you were to find out that the mouthwash you were using may actually be hindering those results? If you use a mouthwash that has alcohol in it, you may be doing just that. Alcohol is not good for your mouth. What it does is dry out your mouth. This makes cavities and gum disease more likely to happen. Does your mouthwash have alcohol in it? All Alcohol is Dangerous for Your MouthOne of the most common causes of cavities, especially as one gets older, is dry mouth. This often happens as people age, or from certain medications. However, those are not the only culprits. If you use a mouthwash that has alcohol in it, or consume alcohol on a regular basis, you may be causing this to happen in your own mouth. Alcohol does not benefit your mouth. You will get far better bacteria killing results if you use a mouthwash that does not have alcohol, but is antibacterial or antimicrobial in nature. You do not need the alcohol in it to kill off those different bacteria. Alcohol slows how much saliva the mouth creates, which is not good. You need that saliva to add nutrients to your mouth, balance the pH levels of your mouth, and to keep your teeth and gums healthy. If you dry up this valuable tool, it can become a big problem. If you currently use a mouthwash that does have alcohol in it, make sure to flip it for one that does not contain alcohol as soon as you can. The sooner you make the change, the healthier your mouth can be overall. |
