Common Reasons for Tooth Pain That Are Totally Avoidable

Common Reasons for Tooth Pain That Are Totally AvoidableIf you find yourself struggling with tooth pain, there are many reasons that can cause it, but most people don't realize it can be avoided or addressed.

For some, it is only happening in situations of consuming something with a temperature change in their mouth, hot coffee or maybe ice cream. For others, it's when they eat something either acidic or sweet like ketchup or some caramel. Our office would like to give you a better understanding of what happens to your teeth.

What Causes Sensitivity

There are some common reasons for tooth pain. If you have any forms of tooth decay, it will create sensitive patches on your teeth. If you have any worn or partially broken fillings and crowns, it can cause pain too. Has anyone ever told you that you grind your teeth at night? Bruxism or grinding can result in pain. Having us fit you for a custom nighttime mouth guard can avoid future issues. You may be starting to develop gum disease.

You may have an exposed root. Excessive or improper teeth whitening can lead to sensitivity quickly. Using a hard bristle toothbrush or applying too much pressure is another common cause. All avoidable once you know it's what is causing the pain.

How to Treat and Avoid Tooth Pain

When you notice signs of decay, a visit to the dentist is a great start to avoid pain. If it's already started, we can identify the reasons. Using a soft bristle toothbrush as well as a fluoride toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help. You can come for an in-office visit where we can apply a fluoride gel to strengthen your tooth enamel.

This reduces sensations to the tooth nerve. We can perform a dental crown for decaying teeth, or we notice you have some minor flaws. We can perform dental bonding which is using the filling material to cover and strengthen those areas. If the decay is bad. We can perform root canal therapy.

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes twice each day followed by flossing and mouthwash will avoid most problems. If you are having tooth pain from decaying teeth, it will only get worse over time. Call us for an appointment today.
