Each type of produce that we consume gives our bodies a different set of nutrients. The same goes with the different color families of produce. Reds are known for their ability to provide the body with phytonutrients and antioxidants. This can help reduce the risk of developing diabetes, slow or stop osteoporosis, and even fight cancer. So, how do you get these benefits to also apply to your mouth? Simple. You eat them. What Happens When You Eat Red Produce? When you consume red produce, your mouth gets washed with the nutrients in the food before the food ever makes it down to your stomach. This means that your mouth can pull any nutrients it is low in before it goes to the rest of your body. For those who are at higher risk of developing cancer, for example, your mouth could pull the antioxidants out and help fight off any bacteria that may be precancerous. Your mouth can also take out any nutrients that could help to refortify your teeth and make them stronger. Types of Red Produce You Should Be EatingWhen it comes to red produce, the stronger the color, the more nutrients you can get out of the item. So, foods like beets have more nutrients than red peppers or tomatoes, since the juices that run out of them are lighter than the deep reds that come out of beets. You should also include berries and pomegranate in your diet. The only problem with red produce items is that they can stain. However, if you eat them with other foods and drink lots of water as you consume them, you can drastically reduce the potential for staining.
