What Kind of Mouthguards Are Best for Protecting Your Teeth?

Posted on 7/7/2020 by Brandon Cooley
What Kind of Mouthguards Are Best for Protecting Your Teeth? When protecting your teeth at night from bruxism or for athletic activities such as sports. Going with a mouthguard for this purpose is an easy, and effective solution to help protect your teeth. However, there are mouthguards you can purchase from the store and ones you can have made-custom. Today, we will be discussing why using custom mouthguards from us has major advantages over the ones you can purchase in a store.

Why We Recommend Custom Mouthguards

Over-the-counter mouthguards are effective at helping protect your teeth, but they are far from perfect. Because they aren't custom-made, they don't take into account the unique shape of your mouth. This leads to a jack-of-all-trades mouthpiece that is made to work for almost everybody but provides a poor fit for the majority of people.

A loose mouthguard that ends up getting misaligned during use is essentially useless since the mouthguard itself becomes the danger to the user if force ends up applied to it the wrong way. A good example of this is when a person diagnosed with bruxism makes grinding motions with their jaw and applies tremendous force to their teeth which slowly causes damage down the road.

A custom-made mouthguard is able to sit snugly and comfortably in the user's mouth to ensure that it doesn't pop out of place during use. This is especially important during sleep when you wouldn't be able to do anything about a misaligned mouthguard- or during an intense sporting event where you don't have time to adjust it.
