Tips for Spotting an Oral Infection Following Any Type of Oral ProcedureIf you have recently had an oral procedure done in your mouth, it is important to be on the lookout for any symptoms which may be indicative of an oral infection. Knowing what to look for could save you time, money, and discomfort.

What is an Oral Infection?

An oral infection is an infection that happens inside your mouth. The bacteria in your mouth can cause viruses, tooth decay, gum disease, and other common mouth infections. All these conditions are known as oral infections. Usually, oral infections only last a few days and do not spread throughout the body. However, it is important to know what to look for if you have just had an oral procedure.

Symptoms of an Oral Infection

Using these tips, you can spot an oral infection. First, notice how your breath smells. If you have bad breath in the morning, that could just be the accumulation of bacteria overnight. If your bad breath lingers throughout the day, even after you brush your teeth, it is possible that you have more than normal amounts of bacteria in your mouth, which may be causing an oral infection. If you have a bitter taste in your mouth, this could also be a sign of oral infection. If you have a fever or pain at the site of your procedure, you may have an oral infection. Take your temperature every hour if you suspect you have an infection so you can communicate accurately with our staff. Lastly, feel your jaw and the glands in your neck. Are they swollen? If so, you may have an oral infection.
