Dental bleeding is a form of gum disease caused by a plague build-up at the patient's gum line. For patients who have gingivitis, their gums may be irritated, red and swollen. Their gums bleed when they brush their teeth.
Signs and Symptoms of Dental Bleeding
Some abnormalities may happen on the patient's mouth to indicate there is a problem in the mouth. These are a red-coloured stain on the toothbrush after brushing, slight blood when chewing gum, blood visible on teeth and lips, mouth sores and the lump on gums. All these are indications of dental bleeding, and we highly recommend that you visit our dentist to check up on that so that treatment can be administered and prevent further infection.
Causes of Dental Bleeding
Bleeding gums is caused by deadly plague and millions of bacteria that align themselves on the gum and develop into gingivitis. If this condition is left untreated, it can lead to a more severe disease called periodontitis. There are other causes of bleeding gum other than plague, including leukaemia, vitamin K deficiency, scurvy, and hormonal changes.
First Aid to Dental Bleeding
When the teeth are bleeding but have no pain, it should not be ignored, and the patient should not wait for the condition to worsen. Here are some of the first aid steps that should be followed while the patient is being brought to our dentists. For fast relief to stop the bleeding, use a clean piece of a washcloth and soak it in cold water; where the teeth are sensitive to cold water, hot water can be used instead. The teeth should not be pressed as this may perpetuate excessive bleeding; a patient may also take a pain reliever to lessen the pain.
Dental Bleeding treatment
Our qualified dentists recommend the following practices as methods of treatment of dental bleeding. Brushing twice a day and regularly will stimulate the gums and strengthen the tissues and prevent bleeding gums. Flossing improves the removal of plaque and food particles stuck along the gum line.
If you experience discomfort in your dental or may have experienced some of the symptoms mentioned above, please feel free to visit our dentists, and we shall solve the problem.
